Instructions for installation of the SSURGO processing tool with ArcMap GIS. The downloaded file is the zipped SSURGO tool. It's wrapped as an ArcGIS extension, the same way the ArcSWAT is. Here are the following easy steps to instal and use the tool with ArcMap GIS: 1. Unzip the content of the attached archive into a new empty folder (preferable c:\Program Files\SWATioTools folder which is default for this tool. If the installation folder is different from the default one then the tool will ask to specify the installation folder (see Step 8 below) every time it runs.) 2. Run 'SWATioTools.bat' file by double-clicking on it. It will register the DLL and create an ArcGIS extension with the name 'SWAT I/O Tools' 3. Open ArcGIS with an empty project 4. Enable the extension by checking the checkbox in Menu: Tools->Extension->SWAT I/O Tools 5. Enable the new 'SWAT I/O Tools' toolbar by right-clicking anywhere in the toolbar area. Note: Steps 4 and 5 may be enabled by default when registering the extension during step 2. 6. Now you should see the extension containing only one button with a purple globe icon. Click on it. 7. The new window will pop-up. This is the main input window. - All the SSURGO files should be downloaded off the soildatamart website and unzipped in one folder prior to this step. Select that folder as a source folder (see example attached - ssurgo_input1.jpg) - Create a new empty folder where all the output soil files will be placed and select it as a destination folder. - Don't change anything else in the window .. - Click on OK button. Note: The final shapefile and raster dataset will be created in default NAD_UTM83_15N projection. You would need to reproject them to your desired projection before entering the soil layer in SWAT. 8. After you click OK a new window shows up asking for an installation folder. Select the folder you picked in Step 1. 9. After that the processing begins. Please wait patiently, as it may take some time to do the conversion and create the projected raster files. All the output files will be placed into the output folder including the raster layer (named soilrast) within ../Raster/ folder (see Step 7). 10. In the SWAT Soil definition screen, substitute the raster layer as a soil layer and pick a LOOKUP.txt file as a lookup table. Choose VALUE as a grid field and select NAME in the 'OPTIONS' option. 11. That's it! Please don't hesitate to contact Aleksey Sheshukov at ashesh@ksu.edu if there are any problems. The tool is still in development stage so the users may still experience issues working with it. Please be patient.
