If you want to be part of something that makes life better for humankind and if you like the idea of solving real world problems, Biological and Agricultural Engineering (BAE) or Agricultural Technology Management (ATM) may be the right choice for you.
As a biological and agricultural engineer or as an agricultural systems technologist, you can apply your knowledge of biological, physical, engineering and technical sciences to solve problems for the world’s largest industry — agriculture and the food system. Whether it’s designing equipment for more efficient farming, developing methods to improve water and soil quality and the open environment, implementing innovative ideas to improve the quality and safety of food, or managing complex agricultural systems, biological and agricultural engineers and agricultural systems technologists contribute their knowledge and expertise toward safer, more productive, and more sustainable systems for food, fiber, and renewable energy. The BAE path also is an excellent path to graduate school or professional schools such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and law.

The BAE Department at Kansas State offers two undergraduate degrees: Biological & Agricultural Engineering from the College of Engineering, and Agricultural Technology Management from the College of Agriculture. BAE faculty teach classes in both majors. Because both majors are specialized programs and most faculty also do research or extension education, student and faculty and student-to-student interactions are high in the department.
Not only do we bring solutions to life, we foster a life-sustaining environment for our students. In addition, our students have more opportunities for leadership, working part-time for faculty on research, and participating in student competitions. More opportunities lead you to faster and fuller development of your potential as a person and as a professional.
The opportunities for our graduates are endless. Salaries in exciting and rewarding positions are very competitive for our graduates and we could place many more of them in different positions. Salaries for Biological & Agricultural Engineering graduates range from $40,000 to $55,000 and from $30,000 to $50,000 for Agricultural Technology Management graduates. Success of our Biological & Agricultural Engineering graduates in getting assistantships or fellowships for graduate school has been 100%. Those graduates that have gone on to professional schools have had a 100% acceptance rate, too.
